Ruth Solomon passed away after an illness in her home at 100 White Pine Drive, Albany NY on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the age of 97. Born in Schenectady NY, she was the cherished daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Goodman. Family was always her priority Ruth was married to her devoted husband Robert Solomon for 63 years before his passing in December 2002 She was the beloved mother of daughters Gloria Solomon Labovitz and Marcia Diephouse and spouse Roger, loving grandmother of Andrew Labovitz and spouse Kirstin, Jacob Labovitz and spouse Kerry, Jason Latin and fiancée Elena, and Adam Latin. Ruth was the proud great grandmother of Audrey, Claire, Tessa, Eliana and Tyler. She was one of 5 siblings: the late Sol Goodman and his late wife Nancy, the late Irving Goodman and his wife Harriet, David Goodman and his wife Fran, and the late Marilyn Etkin.
She was always proud to say that at age 15 she was the youngest in her graduating class at Mont Pleasant High School, class of 1935 She was in the National Honor Society but was unable to go on to college because of finances during the Great Depression.
She was employed as senior accountant supervisor in the Finance Division of the New York State Police for many years and was an active member of Temple Israel for all of her adult life
She showed her creative talents by becoming the family’s Poet Laureate, composing beautiful poems for every occasion and later at her Avila residence she became known as the lady that created cards on the computer to send to friends.
Appreciation and gratitude go out to her wonderful caretakers who provided such loving care till her passing.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue in Albany on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 10:00am. Private burial will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland,
Following the burial, the family will receive guests as well as other family at Avila 100 White Pine Drive, Albany NY in their small dining room.
