Sophie W. "Sue" Swire, 94, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2017, at home in Guilderland with her family by her side.
Born in Kingston and raised in Troy, she was the daughter of Louis and Anna (Pomerantz) Weissblum. She graduated from Troy High School and NY State College for Teachers. She married Irven Swire in 1944 and lived for many years in Chatham, NY, where they raised five children. She was the family record-keeper, never missing a birthday or anniversary. She enjoyed word games and crossword puzzles and was known for her wit and intellect. Her memory, sharp until the end, put much younger people to shame. Her children and grandchildren gave her much pleasure. She was a member of Congregation Anshe Emeth in Hudson, NY.
She was predeceased by her husband and her siblings Joseph Weissblum, Margaret Yanover, Pearl Manche, and Vivian Weissblum.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Harriet) Swire of Newton, MA; Barbara Swire of Cape Coral, FL; Laura (Tom) Rhodes of Redwood City, CA; Alan (Fran) Swire of Pittsford, NY; and Rosanne (David) Santucci of Medford, MA; her grandchildren Ben Swire, Daniel Swire, Michael Rhodes, Steven (Bonnie) Rhodes, Jeremy Swire, and Abby Swire; her sister Natalie Weinstein; and many adoring relatives and friends.
Following her wishes, a short and simple graveside service will be held in the Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson, NY on Sunday, September 17.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory should make a contribution to the Community Hospice Foundation in Albany, or a charity of their choice.
