Michael Robert Cohen (Mike), age 81, died unexpectedly at home on February 1, 2018. He was born in Albany, NY, where he resided throughout his life.
Mike was a graduate of the Milne School, class of 1955. He spent the majority of his working life employed by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. After an early retirement, he became a serious numismatic collector of 19th century historic bank notes and coins. He also had an enduring interest in railroad history and was an avid collector of railroad memorabilia. A longtime member of the Mohawk & Hudson Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS), Mike was very active in the effort to preserve our railway history and heritage.
Mike was the son of Dr. Donald Cohen and Annette Cohen and is survived by his brother, James Cohen of Eastham, MA, and nieces Claudia Mazar of Orlando, FL, and Emily Briehl of Jacksonville, FL.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave., Albany, NY, followed by burial at Beth Emeth Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the NRHS’s General Fund, http://www.nrhs.com/ giving.
