Obituary of Ida Domfort
Ida Knieling Domfort, age 65 of East Greenbush, NY died on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born in Astoria, Queens, Ida was the daughter of the late Waldemar and Shari Knieling, both Holocaust survivors. Ida was a graduate of Bryant High School in Queens, NY. She had been residing in the Capital District since 1990. She was employed for many years by Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield both in NYC and Albany. She was a member of B’nai Sholom Congregation in Albany, Ida was a fan of the Beatles, enjoyed traveling, baking and cooking. Ida also enjoyed reminiscing with family and friends. She was most proud of her son Marcus and of his skills with playing the violin. She was always present at his competitive swim meets both at the YMCA and SUNY Potsdam.
Ida is survived by her husband of 26 years, Howard Domfort as well as her son, Marcus both of East Greenbush. Sister of Eric Knieling ( Rose Ann) , sister-in-law of Marcia Banks ( Jeff), and brother in law Robert Domfort ( Patricia). Ida is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 2:30pm. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery on Western Avenue in Guilderland, NY. Shiva will be at the home of Ida’s brother and sister-in- law Eric and Rose Ann Knieling, 636 Top Ridge Drive, Albany, New York 12203 following the funeral, with a Shiva minyan at 7:30pm.
On Monday, shiva will be at Howard and Marcus’ home, 46 Robin Lane, Rensselaer, NY 12144 from 2pm to 7pm. Those wishing to remember Ida in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, 1275 York Avenue, New York, New York 10065 or a charity of your choice.
