Obituary of Joseph Meda
Joseph Thomas Meda passed away on July 23, 2017 at age 76. He was the son of Sidney and Frances Meda and is survived by his loving wife Barbara and sons Aaron (Colleen) and Evan.
Joe graduated from Brooklyn Tech. High School in 1958. He attended City College and Queens College before attending SUNY Cortland and
graduating in 1965. He attended SUNY Albany, obtaining his masters in history in 1967. Joe passed his orals and written exams for his PHD in 1968. His uncompleted thesis was “ A BRIDGE BETWEEN WORLDS: THE JEWISH DAILY FORWARD”. Joe was a fellow and teaching assistant at SUNY Albany before accepting a teaching position at the Junior College of Albany- now Sage Junior College. There he was chairman of the Social Science Department and then interim dean for a year.
In 1968, he was recruited to teach at The Albany Academy as chairman of the History department. Joe had the honor and pleasure of teaching both of his sons before retiring in the year 2000. He was made Faculty Emeritus shortly after.
Joe continued to study and expand his vast knowledge while retired. He greatly missed teaching and the young men and women he taught.
Services at Congregation Berith Sholom, 167 Third Street Troy on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11; 00am. with burial to follow in the Berith Sholom Cemetery in Troy
. Shiva will be at his wife's residence on Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 6:30.
