Obituary of Ruth Phaff
Ruth Rosenfeld Phaff, age 89 of Albany, died on August 22, 2017 at the Eddy Village Green, Cohoes after a short battle with lung cancer, surrounded by her loving family and staff. Diagnosed in April, Ruth vowed to enjoy her remaining time rather than dwell on her illness. In June she hosted a celebration of life party with the entire family and many friends gathering to celebrate what would have been 70 years of marriage.
Ruth was born on Sept 21, 1927 to Jenny and William Rosenfeld. Her older sister, Shirley Lasker passed away in 2008. She married Leo Phaff on October 14, 1947. Ruth was a graduate of Russell Sage College and worked with Leo in the family business, National Business Promotions. Ruth was always at Leo’s side when it came to their many contributions to the Albany Jewish Community and when she was not at the office, she was incredibly busy raising 6 children.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Leo, and their six children. David Phaff (Debbie), Stephen Phaff (Gale), Ellen Shein, Dori Phaff (Dan Raviv), Judy Ledger(Lindsay) and Wendy Phaff. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren who all adored and admired her; Jennifer, David, Joshua, Leah Tova, Aaron, Zachary, Sarah, Binyamin, Keren, Gilad (z”l), Yair, Jonathan, Emma, Matthew, Ilana, Mira, Gabe, Max and Maddy and 38 great grandchildren.
Services will be held 1 pm on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Temple Israel, 600 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY followed by a graveside service at Temple Israel Cemetery, Western Ave., Guilderland. Shiva will be observed commencing Thursday from 6-9 pm..Friday from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to -4 pm and will resume Sunday through Tuesday, from the hours of 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 9pm at the Phaff residence, 14 North Pine Ave, Albany.
In lieu of flowers, Ruth has requested donations be made to Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy or Temple Israel of Albany
