Obituary of Meir O'Brien
MEIR O’BRIEN, 20, of Albany, NY sadly passed away early Saturday September 2, 2017 at the Stanford Children's Hospital in Palo Alto California, after a brief struggle with Leukemia. Meir was about to enter his junior year at the University of Chicago. He attended the Maimonides School for elementary school and graduated High School from the American Hebrew Academy in Greensboro NC, with the Judaic Studies award. His passion and dedication for thinking of others was unwavering even until his untimely death. He was a political activist who had hopes of being a Rabbi, Lawyer and Governor of New York.
> He was a thoughtful seeker, a brilliant student, beloved by his peers and friend. He was passionate and opinionated, dedicated to study and justice, and also exceptionally gentle and pleasant with others. His comedic prowess, wit, intelligence and sensitivity made all whom he met want to be in presence. His untimely passing is a loss felt by many, whom he touched at the various stages of his short life.
> He is the son of Mrs. Vicky O'Brien and the late Dr. Jonathan O'Brien of Albany. He is survived by his siblings Nathana, William, Shoshana, Rebecca, Eli, Nechama, and Chananya, grandparents Dr. Donald and Elaine Kaner and beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
> Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday September 6th, at the Shabbos House, 320 Fuller Road (parking at UAlbany’s Dutch lot in the rows closest to Shabbos House) with burial in the Beth Abraham-Jacob and Independent Benevolent Society Cemeteries, also on Fuller Road.
> Vicky and her children will sit Shiva at the Shabbos House, Wednesday September 6th and Thursday September 7th 7-9:30pm, and 11am-2pm on Thursday and Friday. Vicky will continue to sit Shiva at the Shabbos House through the start of the coming week.
