Obituary of Doris Rosenblum
Doris Rosenblum, 82, of Albany NY, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born in Brooklyn, NY to Bertha and Jack Icke on December 10, 1934. Doris was raised in Brooklyn and was a graduate of Brooklyn College where she earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in teaching. She taught elementary school in NYC before moving up to Cohoes, and continued teaching in the Albany City School District until her retirement in 1995.
Doris married William (Bill) Rosenblum in 1960 and was a loving wife to him for 54 years, until his passing in 2014. She was devoted to her three sons, Jay, Michael, and Alan and showed them the value of family and friendship by the way she lived her life. She was a loving mother-in-law to Adrienne, Joan and Sharon whom she loved like daughters. Doris also had a special relationship with her sister in law Reeva Nowitz (Bernie, of Blessed Memory) and brother in law Charles Rosenblum and his wife, Suzanne. But most of all, Doris was a role model for and proud grandmother of her grandchildren: Alyssa and her husband Dan, Gabrielle, Ari, Jessica, Andrew, Jason, Jacob, Leo and Ethan.
Doris was always active in many community organizations and willing to help out whenever needed. She was a lifelong member of Hadassah and B’nai B’rith Women’s Organization. Doris was also a long-standing member of Temple Israel.
Doris enjoyed playing Mah Jong, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, traveling and reading. She and Bill could often be found surrounded by friends at the pool in Florida or the JCC discussing books they were reading, politics, movies, plans for the weekend or concerts at Tanglewood where they first met. Doris will be truly missed by her many friends.
A special thank you to her close friends for their support for Doris and her family over the past few months; and to Joan and Dana from Interim Health Care for the loving care they provided.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Temple Israel, 600 New Scotland Avenue, Albany NY at 2:00pm. Interment, at the Temple Israel Cemetery. The period of mourning will be held at the home of Jay and Adrienne Rosenblum from Monday evening at 7pm, with Shiva Minyan at 7:30pm through Friday morning, resuming at 7pm on Saturday evening; as well as Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon from 1pm-3pm.
