Obituary of Jack Wilson

 

Jack (Jake) Wilson, 82 of Albany, NY died on Thursday evening at St. Peter’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. Jake was born in Albany and was a lifelong resident.  He was a graduate of the Phillip Schuyler High School in Albany. Jake was an Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He had been the owner of the former Wilson Brothers Grocery Store in Albany, and the Checker Cab Company. For many years Jake had also owned Wilson’s Roofing Company in Albany.  He was a longtime member of Albany City Lodge # 540 Knights of Pythias in Albany and a former member of Temple Israel.He had also been the co-founder of Odyssey Comics; one of the earliet direct sales comic book stores in the country. Jake was known for his generosity and supported several different charities including the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, Make a Wish, Father Flanagan Boys Town and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

 

 

Jake is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rebecca (Becki) Kagan Wilson, . Loving father of Dawn Carden of Albany and Lawrence (Larry) Wilson and his wife Karen. Brother of Wendy Stevens and Barbara Holcombe both of Albany. Cherished grandfather of Andrew and Matthew Carden, Gregory, Adam and Ava Wilson and step grandfather of Maddie and Quentin Nolan He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.  Jake was predeceased by his brother, Aaron Arkey Wilson, his sister, Ann Stanger and his parents Abraham Frieda Wilson

Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 12:30pm. Interment will follow in the Beth Abraham Jacob Cemetery on Western Avenue in Guilderland, NY. Those wishing to remember Jake in a special way may make a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice.
