Obituary of Stanley Bergman

Bergman, Stanley
 S., 90 of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away, Friday
 November 23, 2018 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces,
 NM. Having spent the majority of his life in New York State
 (primarily Albany) he moved to Las
  Cruces in 2014 to be closer to family.  Stan was born
 on March 9, 1928 in Southampton,  NY and raised in East
 Hampton, NY.  He graduated from East Hampton High
 School in 1946 and was in the first graduating class from
 Mohawk Valley Community College
  in 1948 (Retail Management) and completed his Bachelor’s
 Degree in the 1970s thru the University Without Walls.
  A life time scouter;  beginning on April 30,
 1940 with Troop 27 in East Hampton, NY, Scout Master of
 Troop 33 in Albany, NY from 1967 thru the
  1980's and continued to mentor Scouts throughout their
 advancements and careers.   He is a recipient of the Order of the
 Arrow; Silver Beaver Award and Wood Badge.  In 2001 he was
 presented with the George Momberger - Lifetime Scouter
 Award.  He served on Staff for 7 National
  Jamborees and continued volunteering at Camp Rotary
  in Poestenkill, NY until 2013.  In 1983 at the age of 55 he had his Bar Mitzvah at Temple B'nai Sholom.
 
 
 
 Employed with the
 State of New York, Department of Taxation and Finance from
 1951 - 1988 and post retirement served as Secretary for the
 Tax Alumni Club. Worked part time at Montgomery Ward for
 21 years as Head
  Cashier of the North Dock.  After his retirement from
 NYS he worked for the BSA Twin Rivers Council in Albany in
 Retail Management of their National Scout Shop.
 Stan (Anne) was
 also an avid volunteer with the City of Albany
 participating in First Night, Albany Tulip Festival,
 Freihofer's 5k and 10 K runs and with many Parades.
  Stan (Anne) were founding members of B'nai Shalom,
and hosted the canteen for their blood drives. Stan received the Whole Blood Donor of the Decade
 award from The Red Cross in May 2011.  Stan loved learning about the Civil War and he
 (Anne) belonged to the Capital District Civil War Round
 Table. 
 
 
 
 He was preceded  in
 death by his beloved wife of 52 years Anne H Bergman
 (Heart), parents Ludwig Paul and Tessie Rose Bergman,
 daughter Gail S Bergman, sister Johanna B Larson and
 brother-in-law Arnold M Heart.  He is
  survived by his three surviving children Paul Bergman
 (Judi); Nancy Bergman-Artman (Greg) and Carol Turner
 (Chuck), granddaughters Ashley and Katlin Bergman and
 grandsons Greg and Andrew Turner, nieces Karen Shapiro and
 Toby Larson and great nephews Brian (Alison)
  and Andrew Shapiro.

 

Services at Congregation B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation 420 Whitehall Road, Albany, NY on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 1pm. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.


 In lieu of flowers
 donations can be made to The Boy Scouts of America or the Capital District
