Beatrice (Bea) Nechamen
Bea Nechamen, 99, passed away peacefully after a short illness on January 21, 2020 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY. She received excellent care during her stay at Kingsway.
Born on January 14, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph and Gussie (Diller) Surks. Bea grew up in Brooklyn, married the love of her life, David Nechamen, and later moved to Springfield, MA where they lived for many years and raised a family. Bea moved to Royal Palm Beach, FL in 1988 seven years after the death of her husband. While living in Royal Palm Beach, Bea was fortunate to find a special companion in Marvin Gilman, who passed away in 2003. In 2014, she moved to Schenectady, NY to be closer to family members.
Bea was a bookkeeper for much of her working life, including working for F.L. Roberts in Springfield, MA for over 15 years. Her family, her friends and her synagogue were the most important things in her life. She was active in the Sisterhood of Temple Beth Zion in Royal Palm Beach, FL. Prior to that, her family belonged to Congregation B’Nai Jacob in Springfield. Her friends and relatives knew her as a confidant they could always rely on.
Bea was predeceased by her husband David, brothers Jacob Surks and Herbert Surks and sister Esther Moak. She is survived by her son William Nechamen (Cheryl), daughter Ellen Vukovich (Michael) of Middleburg, FL, granddaughters Jennifer Nechamen and Sarah Nechamen and many loving nieces and nephews who will greatly miss her.
Bea was buried beside her husband in Temple Beth El Cemetery in West Springfield, MA. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
